We are actively looking for someone to fill the following ongoing volunteer roles:

    • Treasury Assistant – provide backup support for our Treasurer
    • Event Coordinator – help us plan and execute events from film screenings, panel discussions or social events
    • Administrative Assistant – help with taking notes, creating meeting agendas, setting up Zoom meetings and/or assisting with monitoring our email inbox
    • Social Media Coordinator – help with creating and sharing social media content

We currently organize four working groups that focus on different aspects of sustainability in Plymouth and offer participants the opportunity to learn more, engage with each other, and get involved in building a more sustainable community.

Meetings typically take place once a month and are held virtually. All are welcome to attend. To learn more, register for an upcoming meeting, or share an idea for a new working group, please contact us!

Plastics & Solid Waste Reduction

  • Collaborates with the Town of Plymouth to improve recycling and food waste systems, reduce waste and litter, and organize town-wide cleanups
  • Creates and circulates educational displays (e.g., recycle this not that, reusable alternatives to disposable products, etc.)
  • Works with local businesses including restaurants on adopting more sustainable practices

Education

  • Partners with the Plymouth Public Library on environmentally themed Story Time events and related activities
  • Collaborates with educators, parents, school staff, principals, and town staff to advance sustainable practices in schools and increase student engagement and interest in sustainability
  • Builds adult education and engagement programs, including a monthly “Green Reads” book club

Open Space, Native Plants & Pollinator Pathways

  • Organizes hikes, lectures, self-guided walks, and trail maintenance events in collaboration with the town’s Open Space Committee, Trails Working Group, Plymouth Public Library, Mass Audubon and others
  • Maintains Plymouth’s Pollinator Pathway website showcasing our vital pesticide-free corridors for bees, birds, and other pollinating insects
  • Brings together local gardening groups to promote pollinator-friendly, sustainable practices

Water Quality

  • Shares knowledge and expertise on water quality issues in Plymouth, including pollution sources, water conservation, and wastewater treatment
  • Collaborates with local organizations and watershed associations to preserve and protect Plymouth’s water resources and sole source aquifer
  • Promotes volunteer and advocacy opportunities, including monitoring the health of Plymouth’s ponds

  • Volunteer at your school to help form a Green Team, work on a waste audit project to strengthen school recycling, request school administration switch back to reusable trays from disposable polystyrene
